I Need Oxygen

Image
I did some time on the treadmill today, luckily I did not need any oxygen. The Oxygen in this photo is a club on Broadway. I've never been inside, but I am sure the college students have.

Sidewalk Art

Image
It was a beautiful day today. Temperatures in the 70's and low humidity. And I was not the only one outside today at lunch. I wanted to grab that chock and get busy too. I think she must have been using her scarf for inspiration.

Wind Chimes

Image
The weather is beginning to cool off and that means it's more comfortable outside. When I went to work today I almost went back for a jacket; it was low humidity in the 60's.

I Don't Go to Clubs

Image
But I do like the lighting. And this is not really a club, but a bar at the airport.

POW/MIA Memorial

Image
This memorial was dedicated last week near the PC amphitheatre.

Floral Friday - Spider Lily

Image
I found this beauty growing in the side yard of an abandoned house. I plan to go back and dig some of them : ) I thought they were Spider Lilies, but I am not sure. If you have any ideas.

Bridge Closed

Image
The river is still rising. They have closed Dillingham Street Bridge because it is an older bridge and the water is moving fast. At least 8n deaths have been reported in Atlanta (about 100 miles away) where the flooding is worse.

Rollin' on the River

Image
It has been raining cats and dogs in north Georgia for the last three for four days. Georgia Power decided to open the flood gates and this is the result. The river started rising yesterday about 2:00. The first shot was taken about 4:30 this afternoon. The following shot was taken in July.

I'll Have a Sam Adams Please

Image
Hanging around in the airport . . . bar.

Seeing Red

Image
Red dishes at the World Market.

Lady Bug

Image
Classic with a twist.

Dad's Rootbeer

Image
I love to 'window shop' at the World Market. I especially like the food and wine departments with the interesting packaging and labels.

Yellow

Image
I have no idea what this flower is. What made me stop was the profusion of butterflies (not seen in this photo). I do however like the way the vines are wrapped around each other and the shapes of the leaves.

Ox-Eye Daisy

Image
I love flowers, especially wild flowers.

This is Columbia

Image
This is Columbia. She lives at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN. She was severely injured and cannot fly anymore. To read more about the eagle center and Columbia's rehab, click here.

Just One More

Image
All lined up in a row.

Motor Cycle

Image
This is a classic. As you can see, Bikes on Broadway celebrates as form of two-wheeled transportation.

Bikers for Jesus

Image
Years ago, bikers had a bad reputation. Now bikers are corporate executives, doctors, lawyers, and regular people. I caught these two deep in conversation. So what do you suppose they are discussing? The state of the environment, health care reform, or maybe that fewer people are associated with organized religion?

It Takes All Kinds

Image
There's always someone willing to give you a lift when your small, white, and furry.

Bikes on Broadway

Image
About 10 years ago, a local motorcycle group with Uptown Columbus began 'Bikes on Broadway'. It was a way to get locals back to the uptown area as an entertainment option. I wouldn't call it a festival as it is still relatively small, but I am sure it will continue to grow. This vignette was set up specifically for photographers. They really should have put the orange vest away tho. As a side note, this is 9-11 and the flag shot seemed appropriate.

Stick Bug

Image
I know you are probably asking why on earth did she blog this bug. Well, let me tell you, because I have never seen one before. I tried to locate a ruler so that I could get a measurement, but the best I could do was the framing for the panel on the door. Boy, it's buggy here, I mean muggy : ) This is what wikepedia has to say about Phasmids.

09.09.09

Image
I have always been interested in this fountain. It sits on a five-point intersection in the Wynnton historic district in Columbus. I blogged this fountain on a previous occasion. I don't know anything about it. I guess I will have to stop by the visitor center and see if they have any information.Have a happy 09.09.09. I hope you had a good day.

The Folly

Image
The first day back at work after 11 days off can be jam-packed and I knew I needed to get away at lunch. I took a drive thru the uptown historic district in Columbus. I was looking for fountains and almost missed this gem. The house is an octagon and was built by Leander May. Click here for more information on this interesting house.

On Broadway (Again)

Image
Need I say more. Just getting back to town I am low on current subject matter. I hope to get back into the swing of things soon.

The Stone House

Image
On a small island in the Rum River sits the remnants of a stone house. The house, one of three, was built by Dr. Giddings for his family. This is all that remains. The photo below is from the Minnesota Historical Society archives with the Giddings children. Dusty Lens blogged the stone house in January 2009.Information about Dr. Giddings can be found on Marty's blog.

The Rum River

Image
This is a shot of the Rum River just below the damn in Anoka taken from the foot bridge. I never really appreciated how pretty it is.

Nature's Planter

Image
I grew up in Anoka, MN and have been at 'home' this week visiting family. We took a stroll down by the Rum River and I came across this natural 'planter'. I did increase in the saturation so the greens would be more vibrant, but you can't beat nature.

Fair Food

Image
Hungry? You can find just about anything your heart desires, when it comes to food, at the fair. This is just a few of the food fenders. I love the colorful trailers. In this photo (1)German Root Beer (2)Tacos (3)Fried Fruit (4)Buffalo on a Stick (5)Ice Cream (6)Hot Dogs (7)Pizza and Pasta

At the Minnesota State Fair

Image
We have been in Minnesota since last Saturday and our calendar has been jam packed. We spent Monday at the Fair. I try to get home every few years so I can go and the weather could not be better. We were there Monday a.m. We checked out the barns, etc. and went back in the evening for Jackson Brown that night. A great day for sure.

Theme Day - BIG

Image
As soon as I heard that 'big' was the theme for September 1, I thought of this big guy. He was far from the herd, relaxing in the sun. This photo was taken August 2002 in the Black Hills, South Dakota.
