the Broom Maker

At Christmas Made in the South.
Making brooms in the Shaker tradition. His wife is a box maker. I found his 'machine' very interesting. He also took care to select each peice of straw for the brooms. They really are works of art. Useful art. The handles have been hand-turned and carved as well.

They look quite beautiful and useful, too.

So much nicer than mass produced items!

It's fun to watch real craftspeople at work!

Jacob, according to his wife, they last forever if you hang them. The short ones start at $59.00. They really are works of art. Too beautiful to use : )
