Main Entrance of St. Mary's Hospital

*****
The Sisters of St Francis and Mother Alfred began saving the estimated $40,000 construction costs. Construction began on the original hospital in 1888. The hospital was scheduled to open October 1, 1889, but they opened a day early, September 30, 1889, when Dr. Will [Mayo} assisted by Dr. Charlie [Mayo] successfully removed a cancerous growth from a patient's eye.
