Guard Dog

Image
*****   "I've got your back". While his master contemplates the rushing waters of the Chattahoochee. He really was so cute, just sitting there at attention like that. The river really is the place to be these days. I kind of miss the good ole days with the drunks and the homeless people. Now all the yuppies, and gen x'ers, and millennials think they 'discovered' this place. If they only knew. *****

On the River Today

Image
***** On the river today. The group just got back in the rafts after having their instruction on how to ride the rapids. As you can see, none in this group had insulated gear on except for the guide. Would that be a clue to you that the water might still be cold??? Anyway, when they hit Pemberton Falls the young girl in the middle row, right, went over the side. She was in the water but a few brief seconds, before our guitar hero grabbed her vest and pulled her back into the raft. FYI, it was a good day to be on the river. The sky was clear and the weather was a comfortable 62 degrees. Hope you are all enjoying this last Sunday in March. ***** Want to ride the rapids, head over to Whitewater Express with two locations to get you wet in Phenix City and Columbus. *****

Cat Rescue

Image
My son's cat stuck in the tree. Raining and cold, he was up the tree all night. He was about 40 feet up and about 5 feet out. No way we could just scoop him up and bring him down. We had to go and rent a ladder from a local rental service, because we didn't have one tall enough.  To get him to move closer to TOM or maybe into the bucket, we put some tuna fish in to entice him. It certainly got has attention. There was a branch that was in his way and he would not walk around it so TOM began sawing at the branch. That got Little Man brave enough to move close enough to make the grab.
A woman driving by looking for yard sales stopped to provide ladder support and throw up a few prayers for good measure. Judy, thank you for your help.

Fun at the Flea Market

Image
***** We had some fun at the flea market yesterday. The number of vendors was astronomical. I mean really, more than I could count on my fingers and toes. The Hog Wild vendor was selling (and making custom) wood signs. He had quite a selection, but personally I was really attracted to this one! ***** ***** In addition to all the vendors, the number of shoppers beat out Wally World any day of the week. And better deals too! This young man was trying to decide which of the two bats will give him the most RBIs and home runs this season. I bet he chose the bat with the flames. Wouldn't you? ***** *****
On our stroll thru the last (thankfully covered row because it was starting to get hot) we came across this young fella with a couple of geese. He told us he and his wife have a pond behind their house and he thinks the geese will be very happy there. I think so too. ***** It is raining here today, so we will be involved with indoor pursuits like reading, napping, and maybe a DVD.

Seeing Red

Image
***** Today is the last day of Artbeat. We did not go uptown, because we had other things to do like go the the flea market and our favorite home improvement store. Seems like we always spend more than we plan (even at the flea market). We did buy a new umbrella for the patio table...it has solar lights. I can't wait for it to get dark. I know, kind of dorky, but I'm a dork. I also started on a decorative arts project. That's why we went to the flea market.  ***** Anyway, back to this installation. It did not have title or attibution, so it is anyone's guess. It was about high noon when I took the shot so we have some sun flare and blown out skies. I do like the Bradley Theater marquis. I wish the would start showing movies there again, but it has been gutted and is used as an event location. ***** Hope you are having a great weekend. See ya!

Here and Now

Image
***** Here and Now by Zach Tittle, 2013 Steel and Aluminum This piece has been part of the sculpture walk for a couple of years, but I never stopped to photograph it before. The patina on the steel against the blue sky reminds me of the colors of the Southwest.

Split Personality, Artbeat 2014

Image
***** Part of Artbeat 2014. Creator and title of piece not disclosed. I am not sure if this will be a permanent installation or not, but I like it. ***** *****

Lilts and Drawls, Artbeat 2014

Image
*****
Lilts and Drawls is a curated exhibit of photographs that focus on aspects of life in the South, such as traditions, family, social contexts, and the changing environment. I did not take any shots inside, so this will have to do. The exhibit is part of Artbeat 2014 which runs until March 22. The Reception for Lilts and Drawls is March 18, from 6:00 to 8:00. *****

Construction on the Mott House

Image
Construction continues on the Mott House. It will be fenced off for about another year, but you can still get to the North Trail of the river walk. No worries.

The Embrace

Image
*****   A kayaker taking a break. I was quite impressed by his ink. It gives you the impression that he is being hugged. Not a bad idea. I mean we can all use a big hug now and then and his is permanent. *****

Kayaks

Image
Kayaks at the local outdoor shop. And if you need to be convinced to buy one, you can watch videos of kayakers on the river just a short walk from the shop. We are having beautiful weather here. I hope spring lasts a long time. Not ready for the hot, humid summer just yet.

Taking a Nap

Image
At the new Whitewater Express store in Columbus. They had their grand opening about a month ago, but we just made it over there for the first time today. They sell the requisite outdoor equipment, including tents. Not sure if this is an employee (had a rough night last night?!?) or a prospective customer. Either way, he looks mighty confortable.
