Uptown Fountain

Image
***** The new mural on Broadway. I like the bright colors, but I think Columbus' first large-scale mural could have been more representative of the area. Or am I being an ol' fogey? Painted for Artbeat 2014, it catches the eye for sure. I used a lomo effect that really brought out the colors in the mural. And how about the golden patina on that fountain? ***** Mural painted by Hense Combining the language and techniques of graffiti art with the formal language of abstract painting, Hense has produced artworks that incorporate line, shape, and gesture to create abstract compositions that are invigorated by the quick pace and commentary of street culture. ***** Like the mural? You can read more about Hense here.

Processing Phun

Image
***** I heard about the application, Snapseed, for editing iPhone photos. It's not free, but only costs $1.99, so I thought I would give it a try. It has a lot of filters. I am pretty sure I used three filters on this shot...framed, drama, and texture...I think. I like it. Money well-spent as I seem to use my phone for photos a lot these days.  *****

The Mill - Framed and Reflected

Image
***** Eagle and Phenix Mill building No 2. I believe they have started to rent the apartments in this building now. There are not any 'for purchase' units in this building from what I understand. Even so, I have heard the rents are in the $2000 range. Seriously, but I guess you are paying for location, location, location. River views and access to the restaurants, galleries, and theatre in Uptown. The only view I will have of these apartments, is the exterior. *****

No Open Carry Firearms

Image
***** At the local flea market. Does this mean that it's ok to carry a concealed firearm? ***** Now, I live in Alabama, but this week in Georgia, Govenor Deal made it legal for citizens with a permit to carry, to bring weapons into most schools, churches, and bars. In some cases these weapons can be concealed. Is this guy on drugs? I guess the gun lobby knows where they stand in the state of Georgia. ***** Now, I believe that we have the right own weapons to protect land and liberty, but to carry a concealed weapon into a bar is just asking for trouble. We will just have to wait and see how long before we have our own version of the Trayvon Martin shooting.  ****

The Shady Side of the Building

Image
***** A lot of the older buildings have these metal shutters. They are weathered and rusty and I like them. Luckily the tress are not full yet or I would not have been able to get this shot. *****

Prom Night 1976 - TBT

Image
***** Because we are in prom season, I share with you a photo from my junior/senior prom in 1976. We are still together today; 38 years later. A year later, my MIL was wearing my prom dress to her other son's wedding because the dress she purchased was damaged and she did not have enough time to fix it. *****

Bunnies at the Waffle House

Image
***** Easter dinner at the Waffle House. I had two eggs over medium, crispy hash browns, whole wheat toast, and a side of bacon.  *****

Looking Up

Image
***** I took this last week when the sun was shining. It has been raining here now for about 24 hours. This building, in uptown, is being rehabbed as loft apartments with business space at the street level. I wouldn't mind having this room with the round wall. Probably out of my price range. *****

Throw Back Thursday

Image
***** In honor of Easter and recently connecting with my cousin, I am sharing this photo of my cousin Renee and me. I would guess we are three, maybe four years old. I am the blond in the blue dress. Renee is the blond in the pink dress. Our little mary janes look almost identical. *****

***** Rainy days and ... Tuesday's? The river is swollen with recent rains. And winter is going to make another visit tonight. Winter or spring...make up your mind already. Good thing I dont have any delicate plants that will be damaged by the cold.  *****

Hot Boiled Peanuts

Image
***** Personally, I am not a fan of hot, boiled peanuts. Peanuts are supposed to be firm, not soft (read mushy). That's my opinion anyway. Plenty of people like hot, boiled peanuts including my husband and oldest son, so I guess it makes sense to have a booth dedicated to hot, boiled peanuts at the flea market. I do like the sign though. Sort of reminds me of Mr. Peanut. *****

Singing and Playing Guitar

Image
***** We took a run over to the flea market today. We got there early; before it got too hot. It was still crowded as all get out. I guess everyone else had the same idea.  ***** Along the back row, this young lady was strumming her guitar and singing sweetly. It made me think of the music department stores play to get you to slow down and enjoy your shopping experience. She was more entertaining and the music was better, but you get the idea. I would want to be a vendor on either side of her to get the slow down traffic. I left her a tip too! Like I told TOM, if you take a shot of a performer, you should leave a tip. I guess he didn't know that. Go figure. *****

The Cuckoo's Nest

Image
***** It's been a bit of a cuckoo's nest for me this week at work. I have been busier than a one-legged man in a kicking contest. Being exhausted when I get home, I really don't feel like taking (or searching through archives) to find a photo to post. CVD is seriously neglected this year. I don't imagine it is going to get better anytime soon. ***** Speaking of kicking, my neighbor and his daughter-in-law had a throw down and he (my neighbor) did a bit of kicking himself. He stormed over to that shed door and kicked that baby closed. The PVC pipe that he was using to prop the door open ended up in my backyard. We worry because we are on a steep hill and he is no spring chicken and he tramps down that hill regularly (to cut the grass, and as of today, retrieve things). We kept an eye on him today as he came to retrieve his 'stick'. We didn't want him to fall and get hurt in his anger. ***** Families!?! I guess we shouldn't be spying, but sometimes you …

Toys

Image
***** Toy table at the flea market. I see quite a few collectibles on the table: Ronald McDonald, Snoopy, R2D2, and what looks like one of the Chipmunks. I actually took this when we went a couple of weeks ago. I had other things to do today, so no camera! *****

Yes, I am a Carnivore

Image
***** I was heading over to the local craft shop after work today and got a strong craving for a good cut of beef. Being right next door to the Fresh Market, I decided to stop in and get a ribeye for dinner. These kabobs looked pretty good too! Add a baked potato and a crisp green salad and that sounds like a pretty good dinner.  *****

My Wisteria

Image
***** This is what my wisteria is supposed to look like.  ***** ***** This is the reality. We had a frost just as the buds were beginning to pop. Last year, we had hail damage.  *****

You Have Syrup on Your Tie

Image
***** Well, that's one way to keep tie free from debris. *****

Theme Day - Triangles

Image
***** An art installation on Broadway. Triangular-shaped 'cages' filled with rocks. It was not titled or given artist attribution and my shot was a pretty generic and blown-out with the sun almost directly overhead. But I kind of like it as a negative. This is my contribution for CDP Theme Day. Follow this link to see more contributions from around the world.
